Biography: I learned all I needed to about creating art as a young girl in my grandmother’s garden – where I sat doing what as an adult I call meditating – that quite spot, became my temple. Many years passed before I began to birth the creations conceived in my early daydreams. I started to write fiction and poetry, and then my mind exploded into a galaxy of colors, shapes, and movement as I started to paint (on surfaces, digitally, and then added photography and digital visual art to my artistic spectrum). My art is representative of the twists and turns we take in the course of our daily lives, and of the awe-inspiring beauty that surrounds us. My work is my gift to the world, and to everyone who falls in love with it. I was born in Cuba, and have lived in Spain, New York, Vermont, and Massachusetts.

Do you make a career out of or hope to make a career out of art, or is it a sideline for you?
Art is my career, as is journalism under the pen name of Fatima Canovas. You are invited to check out my magazine by googling Art Daily News International Magazine.

What is it about your work that makes it speak to people or to the community at large?
I have been told that it is quite impossible to create art that is unique; that almost everything has been done, but that I somehow managed to achieve it. People are often mesmerized by my art; perhaps because, aside from liking it, they are trying to decipher the mind behind the work.

How do you let people know about your work and your shows?
I am very committed to social media: Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn; as well as good old breaking into conversation with as many people as cross my path.

What do you feel inspires you to make art in the particular medium you have chosen?
The magic of employing such a wide variety of tools to come up with pieces that amaze me each time they are finished. The melding of traditional painting, digital photography, and digital art create a world of boundless adventures waiting to be explored.

Why Miami?
Though I consider myself a global artist, Miami is a very important player in the art world. The home to many important winter art fairs, it is also a gateway to Europe and Latin America.

Do you have a favorite artist from the past or present?
Van Gogh, Munch, Mondriani, and so many other emotional souls before me that poured their hearts and souls into their work.

If someone wanted to get into being an artist, what would be your first suggestion to them?
Do it because you love it; if you think too hard about becoming successful you will never try. Then, once you are on your way, treat it as you would any other type of business.

Testimonial: Life is Art is perfectly described by its name; an organization that supports local artists, exposes the community to art, and is instrumental in the growth and development of our city’s cultural landscape because it truly understands that art is what infuses life in the heart of a community.
