TO PRESENT UPCOMING TWO LECTURES AT
CERNUDA ARTE
Alejandro Anreus, PhD Professor of Art History and Latin American Studies at William Paterson University, New Jersey, has been invited by Cernuda Arte and will travel to Miami to deliver two presentations on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23, as part of a special series of lectures in conjunction with the exhibition Fuego en el Batey. Professor Anreus’s primary area of research has been Latin American and Cuban art on which subjects he has written books and several scholarly articles.
In 1990, Dr. Anreus had the privilege of interviewing José Gómez Sicre, the renowned Cuban curator, art critic and author of the 1944 seminal book, Pintura Cubana de Hoy (Cuban Painting of Today). Gómez Sicre was a close friend of Mario Carreño and helped him organize his pivotal 1943 exhibition at the Lyceum in Havana. Recalling that era, Gómez Sicre told Anreus in said conversation, “In the 1940’s, Mario Carreño painted some of the most iconic works among all the painters in that period…â€
Dr. Anreus’s lectures will render interesting information about José Gómez Sicre, his persona and contributions as a key propeller of the modernist movement in Cuba.
