Background: I guess I was as always an artist. Apparently my biological father was an artist. For some reason she kept proding me to her a real job. a camera in my hand and black and white darkrooms followed me everywhere. I was in the broadcast industry, drawn to stage and studio work. When I did productions on locations I would always volunteer to do the storyboards. I moved to Florida to be the documentary filmaker to save our reefs. As I was learning how to write grants, going broke, I met Tom Zoroya, my mentor. I worked for Tom Zoroya for 10 years learning mural painting and faux finishing.
Tour: I have had bodies of work, initially big botanicals with booths at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Miami Zazz Festivsl, South Beach Elementary, Garden Day and The Home Show.
Career: I have taken the full plunge…Murals by Becca, LLC.
I always wanted to paint on a grand scale! I believe that I can tell your story through art! Mural artists are so diverse and it’s amazing where your story shows up. Murals connect to your brand…again tell your company story through art.
Inspiration: The beauty of being a mural artist is that my clients are so diverse. My website shows the diversity of all the fabulous clients I have been privileged to serve.
My personal work is driven by our natural world. I am determined to use my art to protect it. I am a scuba diver, photographer, writer, sailor, Caribbean island hopper, gardener, cook, wife and mother to a large alley cat I adore.
Outreach: It’s hard for me because I worked in a 4a advertising agency. They bought their own production studio and the rest is history. I know how advertising works. I also know its expensive. So it’s replaced with social media.
I am trying hard to learn, keywords, backlinks, seo, building my website, hashtags, etc. Haven’t found where my money is best spent yet.
Medium: I used to use oil in both the mural and faux work. Because of the danger to our health we switched to water based products.
My mural work is a combination of latex and acrylic and my fine art or whimsical pieces are either acrylic or watercolor.
I am an artist, so a sculpture, collage or photography all pull on me like a powerful magnet.
Why here tho? I think it’s a perfect place for my style of art. it’s very Henri Rousseau inspired.
Art Basel is here, now all the big Satellites too, so So Fl is an art mecca! I know I will find my niche.
I think it’s DCOTA, DESIGNERS, DECORATORS, ARCHITECTS! Not working yet.
Favorites: I think Henri Rousseau, Georgia O’Keefe, Matisse, Picasso, Erte! They are addicted to intense, magnifique color!
Henri Rousseau…when did you know you couldn’t give up?
Suggestions: Work with lots of artists, learn, stretch and get yourself out there every second of every day. You have to be the leader of your success.
Life: I thank The Universe for Life is Art! How would artists ever succeed without believers!
