ECOMB and Life Is Art Partner for FIESTA! A Celebration Of Life – an Artistic Fundraiser for the Environment
Miami, FL, May 24, 2009 – As the weather gets warmer, we are all reminded that life, all life, is our responsibility. Life Is Art is proud to collaborate with ECOMB, the Environmental Coalition Of Miami Beach, to celebrate and support life in an artistic fashion on May 30th at the Upper Eastside Gardens.
“When Brad Schenck [advisory board member to ECOMB] approached us about helping them with the art aspect of their fundraiser, we were very excited to accept,†said James Echols, co-founder of Life Is Art, Inc. He went on to say that “it dovetails nicely with Life Is Art’s mission because, without life, there is no art.â€
The event is being held at the Upper Eastside Gardens, a non-profit urban garden space at 7244 Biscayne Blvd. “When I came here and saw what they were doing, creating a refreshing natural setting within a dense urban zone, I knew that it was a perfect match to have our fundraiser here,†Schenck explained. Then, with a big smile, he exclaims, “And it has mini-golf! How can you not love that?â€
Life Is Art put out a hurried call for artists and got several dozen submissions in just five days to fill only six slots. Echols said, “Just like our first event, we had an overwhelming response from the artistic community, again demonstrating how much an organization like Life Is Art is needed in Miami.†When Schenck decided that he wanted to include an artistic element in the fundraising event, “I remember how much I enjoyed their first event and immediately thought of Life Is Art,†he said.
The participating artists include Alissa Christine of I Love Miami 365 fame, Brian Trainer, a photographer who uses little or no post processing in his images, Dallas Primavera, an energetic abstract painter, Jennifer Swanepoel, a photographer specializing in nature photography, Oliver Dominguez, a painter with an almost classic 1950s feel, Rainer Lagemann, a scuplturist who creates figures out of metal squares, and Antonia Wright, who is bringing a video installation. “We had so many amazing submissions but only a small space,†Echols noted.
Many people have rallied around this great cause to offer their support, including Marla Warrington with Event Rhythm Management and Zen Village, Jonathan Rose of Culture in the City, Susie Glass and Metro 1 Properties, and Soul Of Miami. VeeV Acai Spirit, a green company itself, happily sponsored the alcohol.
In addition to the art, there is to be live music. The event opens at 7:00pm with a drum circle, and everyone is welcome to bring their instruments and participate. Other performers and musicians are scheduled throughout the evening. There are still some slots available for interested performers. Contact Brad Schenck for scheduling.
