Call details: Thrilled to announce, as of today, we are officially accepting applications for emerging artists to apply for our socially-engaged artist residency program! The information is right on our website home page and an e-newsletter went out moments ago.
We’re looking for 40 emerging artists total in NYC, LA, Miami, Chicago, Detroit and Pittsburgh.
ProjectArt is now accepting proposals from visual artists based in Miami to participate in the 2017-2018 Teaching Artist Residency Program. Select artists from across will be awarded the opportunity to teach art classes to children and have access to free creative working space in a public library. Artists will be responsible to design, implement, and teach art classes to children during the academic year. Children’s ages range from 4-17 and students are grouped into classes by age; 4-7, 8-12, and 13-17. The program aims to provide free after-school and weekend classes to youth who have little to no access to art classes.
The purpose of the residency is to support local artists by providing them with the opportunity to utilize the public library as a platform to create new work or advance an existing body of work. Artists are encouraged to select a library location that could inform their personal artistic practice. Community engagement and collaboration with the public is encouraged. Artists are selected by a jury of art and education professionals, contemporary artists and a representative from the library.
The Residency Provides:
+ $5,500 for training and teaching 3 classes per week.
(Payment will be distributed in installments over the course of the residency)
+ $300 gift card for art supplies to support the production of new work.
+ Artists-in-residence group exhibition organized by the Program Director at a local gallery in May/June 2018.
+ A $200 honorarium for participating in the group exhibition and artist talk.
+ Opportunity for studio visits by local curators.
+ Artists will be teacher-trained by ProjectArt and will leave the program with an employable skill.
+ Teaching supplies and art materials for youth art classes will be provided by ProjectArt.
+ Artists will have access to ProjectArt’s private and public events.
