On December 2013, the UN General Assembly proclaimed 2015 as the International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies. It is a global initiative which will highlight to the citizens of the world the importance of light and optical technologies in their lives, for their futures, and for the development of society. It is a unique opportunity to inspire, educate, and connect on a global scale. It aims to raise awareness on the achievements of light science, its applications, and its importance to humankind.
Why light matters?
On the most fundamental level, through photosynthesis, light is necessary to the existence of life itself, and the many applications of light have revolutionized society through medicine, communications, entertainment and culture. (excerpt from light2015 website)
In honor of this recognition we invite artists from all over the globe to submit their proposal to participate in “LUZ- Year of the Light Exhibition†which will make its opening debut in San Juan, PR. Location is still being discussed but I encourage all of you to start sending your proposals. All submitted artworks MUST be original, created by the person/art collective who enters the competition. Special attention will be given to professionalism regarding technique, presentation of work, cohesiveness of project and relation to exhibition theme. If selected, it will be responsibility of the participant to pay for any shipping charges that apply. All mediums are welcome to participate.

REQUIREMENTS:
-THEME: Light (open for interpretation)
-Artists can submit up to four (4) images that comprise a cohesive body of work. Image specifications are: Grayscale or RGB mode, 72 dpi, 1024 pixels on the longest side, JPEG format at maximum quality. The file name MUST follow this format: lastname-firstname-title.
-Word Document listing the information below for each submitted file:

Medium
Dimensions
Year produced
Mounting (e.g. framed, self-standing, etc.)
-A short artist statement explaining how the work submitted is related to the theme of the exhibition
– Artist resume and short biography (include education, past exhibitions, etc)

En Diciembre de 2013, la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas declaró 2015 como el Año Internacional de la Luz y las tecnologías basadas en la luz. Se trata de una iniciativa global que pretende mostrar a los ciudadanos del mundo la importancia de las tecnologías de luz en sus vidas, su futuro, y para el desarrollo de la sociedad. Es una oportunidad única para inspirar, educar y conectar a una escala global. Su objetivo es crear conciencia sobre los logros de la ciencia de la luz, sus aplicaciones y su importancia para la humanidad.
¿Cuál es la importancia de la luz?
En el nivel más fundamental, a través de la fotosíntesis, la luz es necesaria para la existencia de la vida misma, y muchas aplicaciones, utilizando la luz, han revolucionado la sociedad a través de la medicina, las comunicaciones, el entretenimiento y la cultura. En honor a este reconocimiento invitamos a artistas de todo el mundo a presentar su propuesta para participar en “LUZ: Year of the Light Exhibition”, la cual se llevará a cabo en San Juan, PR. La localización todavía se está discutiendo, pero los animamos a todos a enviarnos su propuesta. Todas las obras presentadas deberán ser originales, creado por el artista o colectivo artístico que entre la competencia. Se prestará atención especial a la profesionalidad respecto a la técnica, la presentación de los trabajos, la cohesión del proyecto y su relación con el tema de la exposición. De ser seleccionado, será responsabilidad del participante pagar por los gastos de envío que correspondan. Todo medio creativo está bienvenido a participar.

ELEGIBILIDAD:
-TEMA: Luz (abierto a la interpretación de cada artista)
– Podrá participar todo artista sin importar nacionalidad
– Los artistas pueden someter a consideración un máximo de cuatro (4)
imágenes que formen parte de una serie artística. Especificaciones de las
imágenes son: modo RGB, 72 dpi, 1024 pixeles en el lado mayor, formato
JPEG a la máxima calidad. El nombre de la imagen deberá seguir el
siguiente formato: apellido-nombre-titulodeobra.
-Un documento que incluya una lista con la siguiente información para cada archivo enviado:
• Nombre de artista
• Título
• Medio
• Dimensión
• Año
• Método de montaje
-Resume de artista y breve biografía
-Documento con declaracion de artista que especifique como está relacionada la obra propuesta al tema de la exhibición.
FECHAS IMPORTANTES:
-Fecha límite para enviar propuesta: 31 de Octubre de 2015
-Artistas seleccionados serán notificados: 6 de Noviembre de 2015
-Fecha límite para recibir obras: 30 de Noviembre de 2015
