On Wednesday, July 18, 2018, Life Is Art had the opportunity to participate in Project P.E.A.C.E. This is administered by the Miami-Dade County Office of Management and Budget Grants Coordination Division in collaboration with the Miami-Dade Police Department (Lead Law Enforcement Agency), Justice & Security Strategies, Inc. (Research Partner) and a Cross-Sector Partnership and Mayor’s Task Force.
Project goals are to:
- Increase community perception of safety to encourage pro-social activity by introducing collective efficacy and Social Cohesion interventions to residents, as well as police officers, in order to enhance crime reduction and sustain the efforts;
- Increase the use of anchor points in the micro-target areas as a deterrence to criminal activity, while increasing community ownership. This leads to networking among neighbors and thus increases collective efficacy and social cohesion and reduction in crime; and
- Cross collaboration between community providers, government agencies, including police and residents, ultimately serving as a crime deterrent.
It was such a pleasure to work with the people in the Miami-Dade County Office of Management and Budget Grants Coordination Division on this project. They were very helpful and genuine, as well as understanding of how arts can impact communities. We look forward to working with them again.
