Call details: The Painting Center, an artist-run non-profit gallery in the heart of Chelsea, announces a call for entries for its upcoming juried exhibition entitled The Retrieval of the Beautiful, running from June 21 through July 16, 2016. Highly publicized and with a catalog, the exhibition will feature a diverse group of artists who are exploring the subjective concept of beauty.
Galen Johnson’s book “The Retrieval of the Beautiful” (Northwestern University Press) is a dynamic discussion of existence and consciousness of human activity, including art. Johnson writes, “Here it is enough to see that beauty and the sublime blend into one another when the beautiful grows powerful, transcendent and majestic.”
Something beautiful seduces you and draws you in. We invite artists of all disciplines to submit work that explores beauty through a variety of styles, materials and processes.
