Artists Apply Now:
2010 Creative Capital Program
DEADLINE AUGUST 9, 2010
From our friends at Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs:
Guidelines and applications for the 2010 Creative Capital program are now available. Deadline to apply is August 9, 2010 at 4pm.
Funded by Miami-Dade County, this intensive program provides professional consulting through the Creative Capital Foundation of New York to help individual artists of all disciplines achieve personally established goals for their professional development. The annual retreat provides a cohesive structure in which diverse communities of artists who originate work can pursue innovative approaches and benefit from expert coaching in techniques to organize, plan and sustain their creative careers. For FY 2010, the Creative Capital program curriculum is focusing on advanced, effective, verbal communication skills and techniques, and cutting-edge strategies for maximizing the spectrum of opportunities enabled by the internet.
VERBAL COMMUNICATIONS WORKSHOP:
Designed and led by a communications specialist with extensive experience training artists in public speaking and leadership skills, the Verbal Communications workshop includes lectures, small group activities and hands on exercises to improve interpersonal communications and public speaking skills. It covers such topics as: how to be authentic and comfortable talking about your work in social situations such as gallery openings; and how to pitch your work successfully or ask for money in meetings with presenters and funders. Participants identify their individual goals and objectives in order to represent themselves and their work more effectively and accurately. During the workshop, they have an opportunity to give a short presentation designed to work on content, eloquence, physical behavior and body language.
INTERNET FOR ARTISTS WORKSHOP:
USING THE INTERNET TO BUILD COMMUNITY, PROMOTE YOUR WORK AND INCREASE ADMINISTRATIVE EFFECTIVENESS
This workshop helps participants expand their online presence and learn how to harness the power of internet tools such as social networking and media sharing sites, e-commerce, promotional websites, and blogs. It begins with an overview of internet terminology and applications, and explore how these resources can be used to build audience, expand community, amplify marketing and extend administrative resources. Participants develop a step-by-step, holistic strategy to apply online resources to promote specific career goals. Additionally, the workshop helps artists quickly expand their thinking to recognize and implement the possibilities of new technologies as they develop. The workshop employs a combination of lecture, small group breakout sessions and one-on-one consultations to help 2010 Creative Capital Professional Development Program participants gain the maximum of personalized attention while encouraging community-building as part of the workshop process.
