Call details: What is the Matter of Black? Is it Life? Is it lifestyle? Is it the vast nothingness of space? What does black mean to you as an artist. This festival attracts a significant African American, Caribbean and Latin population. What would the matter of Black be for the community? Contemporary Artist should answer this question visually. Western society has created a narrative and meaning for “Blackness”. The goal here is to rewrite the narrative; reminding onlookers that, “when you are writing the story of our life- don’t let anyone else hold the pen.”
There are no dimension restrictions for this call. Send an email with your name & exhibition as the subject: Attach the following to your application: Artist Statement (100 words max), Artist one-liner (ie. Contemporary Artist & Photography with roots from Barbados” , thumbnail images of work, a title sheet for each image.
All interested artists must submit their work by March 11, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. EST along with the $50 submission fee. Submission fee can be paid online at www.muce305.org.
