Interview – CityLoftArt and Hans-Juergen R. Klemm

Gallery Name: European Art Gallery INC / CityLoftArt LLC

Owner: Hans-Juergen R. KLEMM
Artistic Director: Hans-Juergen R. KLEMM
Opening Date: 2004 / 2007
Location: 61 NE 40th Street Miami Design District Miami Fl.33137
Website: www.euartgallerymiami.com / www.CityLoftArt.com

How did your interest in the business of art start?
Being German, my private life has been influenced by contemporain art. For my business, I worked with interior design within the Bauhaus style.

Is this your first gallery? Do you have a history of gallery work? If so, what other galleries have you worked for or owned?
In 2004 I opened my first gallery in Miami “European Art Gallery” which I transformed in 2007 into “CityLoftArt”, better focussing on my vision of a complete interior style and not only ‘wallart’.

What made you decide to open a gallery in Miami?
A private decision to move from France, where I lived for long years, to Miami.

Do you have a specific artistic vision or style for your gallery?
CityLoftArt is a new concept for urban living, corresponding to the space-, light- and wellbeeing realities of modern condo architecture.

Who is your favorite artist ever? Who is your favorite current Miami artist?
I try to concentrate exclusively on my style, my artists and my concept

What are your goals for the gallery?
To multiply CityLoftArt-stores through partnerships in other US cities.

Have you seen any effects of the economic downturn this past year?
Sure, who has not?

What would you say is the one most important idea for an artist to know when it comes to getting recognized by a gallery?
A clear, own and original style and technique
